the computer as a HD PVR Receiver/ HD / DVR

The Goal was to use my old PC as a HD receiver / HDD recorder.

Advantages:

1) If there is an old PC hardware to be used under these conditions, the PC is a relatively inexpensive way (you only need aditional DVB Cards )

Problem:

1) my Terratec DVB-C cards are very unstable (for example, are not the latest drivers for my system stable, but slightly older) zb DVB cards can possibly after some time receive nothing, to the blue screen, depending on the driver version varies dramatically

2) Power consumption: a PC definitely needs more power than a receiver.

3) Standby: the PC does not wake from standby to clean.

the hardware:

the basis for the Media PC is a retired PC

CPU P4 3000Ghz (Single)

1GB memory

200GB IDE hard drive

AGP graphics card ATI Radeon HD 3450

TV Map 1: Terratec DVB-C DVB-C 1200C

TV Map 2: Terratec DVB-C

Windows XP Service Pack 3

MCE compatible remote control

Sound:

for the sound I have an old car amplifiers and speakers used my broken compact system

(the sound of the LCD TV is not really usable, even where the flat screen, it lacks the sound box)

the power for the amplifier I've just taken a HDD connector (12V)

the sound comes from the onboard sound card and goes straight into the amp via RCA
